Advocacy & Representation Activities of the Chamber – As a business owner, manager, or community member, your time is valuable. You want someone listening to for concerns that affect commerce and working to understand and address those concerns for the common good. That's where we come in. The Chamber is always on the lookout for issues that could affect Los Alamos businesses and our community in a positive or negative way. The Chamber engages in dialogue with representatives at all levels of government - federal, state, and county - as well as government agents such as the National Nuclear Security Administration, Department of Energy, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and others, on economic issues that affect the business community. The Chamber provides information and feedback to help promote increased understanding of our member’s concerns.Recent areas of advocacy and initiative include simplifying building permitting processes, communicating issues for LANL small business subcontractors, initiating an increase in the Federal per diem payable in the County, initiating reform of signage regulations, representing business interests in the design of transit services, providing a leading voice on behalf of a safe, open route between Los Alamos and the Ski area and Jemez, advocating for regional initiatives to address service workforce needs, providing a leading voice in the successful ordinance 529 referendum to enable investment in our downtown, and participating in the Coalition for Jobs, a statewide coalition that pursues an agenda for economic prosperity at with the State legislature.
